🌈 Why does LSD bring imagery even with the eyes closed?

LSD acts on the same 5-HT2A receptor as psilocybin and pulls the visual cortex into networks it does not normally join: the more it joins in, the more imagery people report, even eyes closed. Blocking 5-HT2A first largely stops the effects, which last eight to twelve hours.
